3 Ways to Protect Your Basement Against Water Damage
Being a basement/crawlspace waterproofing company, we have multiple ways to protect your home from water damage. The three that we will talk about in this blog are our three most common solutions to these issues.
WaterGuard: Our most effective and reliable way to PERMANENTLY solve wet basement problems is our WaterGuard system. WaterGuard is a piping system designed to solve water problems without any worry of clogging from soil underneath the floor. The WaterGuard system intercepts water at the perimeter of your basement and drains it away to our sump pump system. WaterGuard is made to not sit in the dirt, so any silt and sediment clogging is not a problem. There has been over 21 million feet installed across North America and it works with all types of foundations.
TrenchDrain: Our TrenchDrain system prevents water from entering your house through doorways and stairways. The TrenchDrain goes hand-in-hand with the WaterGuard, where as the TrenchDrain collects the water, it drains it to either the WaterGuard or the sump pump system. TrenchDrain can help prevent water damage to your basement environment, keeping your home safe and dry. The TrenchDrain comes with a removable cover which makes for easy cleaning and servicing, and flanges which anchor into new concrete. TrenchDrain is most commonly installed 3 inches inside of a garage door in cold climates to avoid freeze/thaw damage from ice. The ThrenchDrain/WaterGuard combo has been installed over 200,000 times in North America.
What is the TripleSafe: The TripleSafe is the world's most reliable pumping system; keeping your basement dry with triple the pumps and triple the protection. With other sump pumps, you face one of three potential problems -- pump failure, a single pump can't handle volume in hard rain and power failure. Luckily, the TripleSafe assures protection from all those problems.
How does the TripleSafe protect from those problems? The TripleSafe is made of three pumps. Pump 1 is a reliable, efficient, smooth-running 1/3 horsepower pump. Pump 2 is a larger, 1/2 horsepower pump that operates when either pump 1 fails, or if pump 1 can't keep up with the heavy flow of water. When both pumps work together, they can remove up to 6,200 galloons of water per hour! Pump 3 is the UltraSump Battery Back-up that turns on if the power goes out or the circuit breaker fails, and it comes with a 120 amp-hour pack and automatic charging system.
What's special about the TripleSafe? Several features come with the TripleSafe that no other pump has.
- It comes with the patented WaterWatch Alarm that sounds off if the water rises above the operating range of the pumps. This warns you of a problem before the damage can occur.
- The system comes with an airtight floor drain in case of a plumbing leak.
- There is an optional TimeMachine Data Logger to monitor relative humidity, temperature, pump cycles, pump run times and battery voltage.
- A knockout in the lid allows our Sanidry Sedona Dehumidifier to drain directly into the TripleSafe.
Why do I need a dehumidifier? Your basement and crawlspace are a part of the inside of a house, right? So that means what's downstairs is also upstairs. If there's high humidity and musty odors downstairs, that means you will notice the effects of that, upstairs. Drying your basement or crawlspace with the SaniDry Sedona will help make your whole home drier and healthier.
Is there anything special about it? Of course there is! There are multiple characteristics about the Sedona that no other dehumidifier has.
- It drains automatically to the TripleSafe.
- It's small size takes up minimal space in the basement and can fit in the crawlspace.
- Fully ductable so it doesn't have to be located in the space being dried.
- Convenient handles and lightweight design makes the Sedona easy to move around.
- Filter that removes mold spores, dust mite droppings, dust and other particles from the air with a large MERV 8 filter with carbon for odor reduction.
How does it perform? The SaniDry Sedona can move a whopping 100 pints of liquid per day and will move over 300 cubic feet of dry air per minutes around your basement or crawlspace. This dries the building materials and contents of your home, thus making that damp feeling go away. The Sedona is also the most efficient dehumidifier in the world with a large and bulky core -- 2.9 liters of water per kilowatt hour of electricity! Simply put, you'll save on electricity over the years while keeping your home dry and healthy.
Whether you know all there is to know about protecting against water damage, or you know very little about it, one thing is simple. Nobody wants to take in any water damage into their home's basement or crawlspace.
